Prof. Dr. Yusuf Z. Menceloglu is the Dean for Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS) at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey and serves on the boards of important associations and societies. He is a founder and partner of technology based startup companies and received several prestigious awards.
As Dean, he has overseen the creation of high-impact interdisciplinary research projects with industry. By enhancing the innovation climate across FENS and encouraging the Faculty, he helped the overall research performance to reach global competitive levels. He implemented three new professional master programs in the past two years and led the creation of a technology center, “Teknopark Istanbul”.
In prior leadership roles, he served as the Research and Development Manager (later as Deputy General Technical Manager) of GEMSAN, Metal working Chemicals and Lubricant group.
He received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry at Istanbul Technical University in 1991 and after post-doctoral research at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill worked with Professor Joseph M. DeSimone. In 2000, Menceloglu joined the faculty of Engineering and Natural Science at Sabanci University as an Associate Professor, where he currently pursues research area of functional polymers in the, ranging from Dr. Menceloglu has diverse research experience in polymers, composites, and reactions/processing in liquid/supercritical carbon dioxide.
Dr. Menceloglu has taught courses in polymeric materials, textile fibers and polymer science. He is the author of over 90 peer-reviewed articles, 4 book chapters, 35 patents, and has delivered over 50 invited lectures around the world. He was honored with several awards such as Turkish Patent Special Award, Metal Coated Nanofibers-Turk Patent Enstitusu, The Best Nanotechnology Researcher in ECO-Countries, Arcelik Invention Days, Patent Award, Industrial R&D award by Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, and Unesco Fellowship.
