PROGRAM ASSESSMENT BASICS AND BEST PRACTICES

Program assessment is a critical component of engineering education, and it is essential for maintaining the quality and relevance of programs. This webinar provides an overview of program assessment, highlighting best practices that are key to engineering education programs around the world. Using ABET Criteria 2-4 as our guide, we will discuss the importance of creating clear and measurable learning outcomes, using multiple and valid data and sources, and involving faculty and other stakeholders in the assessment process.

The focus is on creating a sustainable assessment process that leads to ongoing actionable program enhancements. Participants will learn strategies for using assessment data to inform program improvements and tips on creating a culture of assessment that supports continuous improvement.

We will also provide an overview of ABET assessment education and resources available. This webinar will equip you with practical insights and guidance to design and implement effective assessment processes that support continuous improvement and enhance the quality of your engineering education program(s).

Catalina Plúa is the Head of the Office of Curriculum Design & International Accreditation and Professor of Education at Universidad San Francisco de Quito USFQ. She oversees the international accreditation processes at USFQ and manages and facilitates all assessment, accreditation, and academic program review efforts for all the undergraduate programs and graduate programs offered in her university.

She received her bachelor in Linguistics from Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo UEES and her MA in Higher and Postsecondary Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is an ABET IDEAL Scholar, assessment leader for several higher education institutions in her country, and she is a recurrent consultant expert for the national accreditation agency in her country.

Robyn Hall serves as ABET’s Director of Professional Programs. In her current capacity, she is responsible for ABET’s assessment programs and resources. Prior to this, Hall served as the Assistant Vice President for Seminars and Digital Learning at AACSB International. She received her B.A. in Anthropology from Eckerd College and MBA from the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa. More recently, she earned her Master Trainer certificate from the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
