Professor Mamdouh Al-Harthi is currently the Dean of the “College of Engineering and Physics” at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). He also currently serves as the board member of National Power Academy which is an industry-led academy for Saudi Arabia’s power and energy sectors. From 2018 – 2021, he served as the Chairman of Chemical Engineering Department at KFUPM. Prof. Al-Harthi is internationally recognized scholar in Chemical and Material Engineering. He obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in January 2007.

Prof. Al-Harthi has obtained more than 30 U.S. patents for his inventions, published more than 130 publications in many peer-reviewed international ISI journals and presented his works in many international conferences in the areas of materials and chemical engineering. Prof. Al-Harthi is a member of Scientific, Research and Graduate Councils, Chairman/Member of several high-level administrative and academic committees at KFUPM such as Graduate Committee, Research Committee, and Program Assessment Committee etc. He works as the principal investigator, co-investigator, or team member for many KFUPM, and industry funded research projects.  Prof. Al-Harthi is a reviewer for many related international journals and serves as consultant in numerous industries in Saudi Arabia.  Prof. Al-Harthi received the “KFUPM Excellence in Research” award which is the highest honor given to faculty members of KFUPM who topped in research in specified academic year. 

Prof. Al-Harthi is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate education. Apart from teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, he also supervises many MS and PhD students, and conducted several training courses and tailor-made programs in the area of chemical engineering for various industries.
