Prof. Dr. Paloma Díaz is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) since 2003. With a Degree and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, she joined UC3M after graduating in 1992. She has been involved in interdisciplinary research in the Interactive Systems research group (DEI LAB) that she leads since 1996, the Institute of Culture and Technology and the UC3M-BS Institute on Financial Big Data. She has been visiting scholar in the Information Sciences and Technology College of PSU during the academic years 2007-2008 and 2015-2016, MAGIC LAB at British Columbia University in July-August 2011, and the Visualization Institute of Stuttgart University in July 2014.
Her main areas of research are interaction design, web/usability engineering, mobile and ubiquitous computing, big data visualization, civic participation, ICT for learning and teaching and digital cultural heritage. Prof. Díaz has led national and international research projects and contracts about the application of interactive technologies for design, learning and training, digital cultural heritage, crisis management, civic participation or the operation of electrical smart grids. She has published more than 200 papers in journals, conferences and books. She has also organized international conferences and symposiums like IEEE ICALT 2008, IEEE VLHCC 2010, IS-EUD 2015, ISCRAM-MED 2016, as well as tracks in conferences such as Social Networking and Collaboration at ISCRAM 2010-2013, Serious games and simulation at ISCRAM
2014-2015 or Creativity in Collaborative Design at ACM Cognition and Creativity 2015. Her teaching profile includes programming, data structures, and interaction design courses.
From 2007 to 2010 she was the Scientific Manager of the IST research program at the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. She is currently the Dean of the UC3M Engineering School, Director of the Master on Educational Innovation, and Director of the UC3M-Telefonica Chair on Women and Technology.
