Professor Ming Zhou is currently the Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Jiangsu University in 2003. He conducted research as a full time Visiting Scholar at several leading international institutions, including
Columbia University (2004-2005), Harvard University (2005-2006), and jointly at New York University and Purdue University (2011-2013).
Professor Zhou’s research interests focus on the interdisciplinary frontiers of mechanical engineering and materials science, encompassing Bio Molecular
Integrated Design and Manufacturing, Bio Nanotribology, Laser Micro-Nano Manufacturing and Measurement, Nanotechnology of Surface and Interface,
and Cavitation Technology for Renewable Energy.
Selected honors and awards include the National Changjiang Scholars Distinguished Professor by the Chinese Ministry of Education (2009), the National Top-100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award (2006), the Huo Yingdong Excellent Young Scientist Award (2004), and multiple Chinese Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology Awards. He was also selected for the National Hundred-thousand-Millions Talents Project (2007) and recognized as a State Council Special Allowance Expert (2007).
Prior to joining Tsinghua University, Professor Zhou held several academic leadership positions at his alma mater, Jiangsu University, including Dean of
the School of Materials Science and Engineering (2008-2013) and Vice Dean of the Institute of Academic Research (2007-2008).
